3VB Associate Member Professor Stavros Brekoulakis to lead new NUS centre for international arbitration

3VB Associate Member Professor Stavros Brekoulakis has been appointed to lead a new centre for arbitration and international dispute resolution at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Centre, established by NUS and Singapore’s Ministry of Law, will focus on advancing research, thought leadership, international engagement and postgraduate education in international arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution. It aims to reinforce Singapore’s position as a leading global and regional centre for international dispute resolution.

Under Stavros’s leadership, the Centre will bring together academics, arbitrators, practitioners, policymakers, judges, institutions and users from around the world. Its work will examine issues shaping the future of international arbitration, including transparency and accountability, ethics and professional governance, investor-State dispute settlement, and the contribution of Singapore and ASEAN to the development of international arbitration law and practice.

The Centre also plans to develop an interdisciplinary programme of advanced studies in international arbitration, combining research-led legal education with business, technology and engagement with leading international practitioners and institutions.

Stavros, who is the Michael and Laura Hwang Professor in International Arbitration at NUS Law, said the field was entering a period of significant change and that the Centre would seek to combine rigorous scholarship with practical understanding to help shape the future of international arbitration.
