Andrew Onslow KC and Rebecca Zaman in Supreme Court Mock Trial in Aid of Classics for All
On Thursday 23rd October the (mock) trial of Gaius Caecina Largus v Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus will take place before Lady Simler and a jury (the audience) in the Supreme Court, in aid of Classics for All, a charity which supports the teaching of Greek, Latin and Classical Studies in state schools.
The Claimant was the owner of a large and beautiful property on Rome’s Palatine Hill, destroyed (along with its gardens’ famous nettle trees) in the Great Fire of Rome in 64CE. He alleges that the fire was started on the orders of the Emperor Nero, to satisfy his desire for land to build his Domus Aureus, and to provide a suitable backdrop for his notorious performance on the lyre of the Fall of Troy; alternatively that the fire was caused to spread out of control by the Emperor’s tortious neglect of Roman building regulations and the Roman fire service. The Defendant denies the claims.
Andrew Onslow KC and Rebecca Zaman represent the Claimant. Camilla Bingham KC and Oliver Butler (of One Essex Court) represent the Defendant.
