Can Yeginsu to deliver keynote lecture at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna

On Wednesday 22nd November 2023, Can Yeginsu will deliver the keynote lecture at the conference convened by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Teresa Riberio, entitled “Shaping the Future: Media Freedom and Security in a Changing World”.

The event, which will take place at the OSCE’s Headquarters at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, will host Ambassadors from the 57 OSCE States and focus on the critical role of media freedom for democracy and comprehensive security in Europe.

Can Yeginsu’s keynote lecture will be followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Ton van den Brant, the Principal Adviser to the OSCE Representative, featuring prominent journalists from around the world.

The OSCE is a regional security-oriented intergovernmental organization, headquartered in Vienna, comprising 57 member states in Europe, North America, and Asia. It has observer status at the United Nations.

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media is independent of the OSCE States, and its remit is: (i) to observe media developments as part of an early warning function, and (ii) to help participating States abide by their commitments to freedom of expression and free media.

Can Yeginsu is a barrister who serves, together with Catherine Amirfar, as the Deputy Chair of The High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, the independent legal advisory arm to the Media Freedom Coalition of States.
