Devon Airey contributes to collection on “Fraud and Risk in Commercial Law”

Devon Airey has co-authored a chapter alongside Professor Jodi Gardner in ‘Fraud and Risk in Commercial Law’ edited by Paul S Davies and Hans Tijo. The chapter, entitled ‘Mind Your Own (Micro)Business: Fraud, Risk and Microbusinesses’, analyses the inherent risks associated with operating as or contracting with a microbusiness in the world of commercial contracting.

The chapter spans the United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia and outlines the background, legal and regulatory environments and recent developments for contracting with microbusinesses. In particular, it focuses on examples where microbusinesses are both victims to and perpetrators of fraud in commercial transactions. The chapter provides suggestions for reform to ‘level the playing field’ for microbusinesses, both in terms of their transactions with consumers, but also with other businesses.
