His Honour Judge John Peppitt QC

Chambers is sad to announce the passing of His Honour Judge John Peppitt QC.

John was called to the bar in 1958 and took silk in 1976. He developed an excellent commercial practice whilst in tenancy at 1 Harcourt Buildings (where 3VB were situated then). John had a formidable reputation for his advocacy and in particular his cross examination skills. He was much loved by his fellow members for the time he would always give to them to talk over cases, and for his keen sense of humour. Alongside the likes of Andrew Leggatt, Neville Thomas, Peter Cresswell, Stephen Silber and Nicholas Merriman he was instrumental in developing Chambers’ Commercial practice. John left Chambers in 1991 to go onto the bench, where he stayed until his retirement shortly before his 70th birthday.
