Sir Anthony Smellie appointed a judge of Judicial Committee of the Privy Council

Sir Anthony Smellie KCMG KC has been appointed by His Majesty the King as a member of His Privy Council and judge of the Judicial Committee of the UK-based Privy Council.

A former Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands, Sir Anthony joined 3VB as an Associate Member in December 2023. Having been admitted to practice as an attorney-at-law in Jamaica, held a number of distinguished roles in Jamaica’s justice system, including Crown Counsel and Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions from 1977 to 1983. He subsequently moved to the Cayman Islands, where he served as Principal Crown Counsel, Solicitor-General, acting Attorney General, Judge of the Grand Court, and Chief Justice.

Sir Anthony is an Honorary Bencher of Gray’s Inn, a member of INSOL International, the International Insolvency Institute and a STEP Judge. He is also an active arbitrator and mediator.

Sir Anthony’s appointment to the Privy Council took effect on 5th February 2025.
