Sir Peter Cresswell
Sir Peter Cresswell died on Wednesday 10 September at the age of 81. He was the leading banking and financial law silk of his day, practising from what is now 3VB. He served as Chairman of the Bar of England and Wales in 1990. He was a judge of the Commercial Court between 1991 and 2008, and from 1993-94 he was the Judge in charge of the Commercial Court. He was one of the founding editors of the Encyclopaedia of Banking Law.
Following his retirement from the Bench, he returned to 3VB as an Associate Member and built up a strong practice, particularly in mediation.
3VB remembers Sir Peter not only for his outstanding legal career but also as a valued colleague whose foresight and leadership played a vital role in shaping 3VB’s position today as a leading set of chambers in financial services and banking cases worldwide.
He will be greatly missed.
