Professor Zachary Douglas KC awarded Best Lecture or Speech at GAR 2023 Awards

Professor Zachary Douglas KC has been awarded ‘Best Lecture or Speech’ at the Global Arbitration Review Awards 2023, which took place on Thursday 30 March at InterContinental Paris Le Grand, as part of Paris Arbitration Week.

Zachary won the award for the outstanding delivery of his keynote speech “Instead of Principles, Slogans” at the inaugural 3VB and Queen Mary Arbitration Lecture, which took place on Tuesday 26th May 2022. Australian arbitrator Zachary Douglas KC argued that investment treaty arbitration is more akin to a tort claim against a public authority than to public or administrative law – to which it is often compared – and that recognising this provides solutions to some of the controversies preoccupying the field.

Members of 3VB extend sincere congratulations to Zachary on his well deserved recognition.

You can read more about the 2022 Lecture Series here and access Zachary’s paper in full here. The paper was also published in the Winter 2023 ICSID Review here.

The date for the 2023 3VB/QM Arbitration Lecture is Thursday 11 May. Further details will be available on our website soon.
