Professor Zachary Douglas KC Joins 3VB
Members of 3VB are delighted to announce that Prof. Zachary Douglas KC will join Chambers as a full tenant on 1st November 2022.
Zachary is considered to be one of the world’s leading specialists in International Arbitration. He is recognised in the list of ‘Most in Demand Arbitrators’ by the Chambers & Partners Global guide 2022, described as, “…a genuine specialist in arbitration”. He is ranked Tier 1 in The Legal 500 for Arbitration and Public International Law, who say he is, “easily one of the best counsel in the world” and “one of a handful of counsel whose oral advocacy has changed the minds of arbitrators on fundamental issues.” He is also named as a Global Thought Leader in Who’s Who Legal.
Zachary has a substantial practice before international courts and tribunals as counsel, arbitrator and expert witness, and also frequently appears before the English courts and the courts of other common law jurisdictions in cases with a public or private international law element. He is a Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and was formerly a member of the Faculty of Law of Cambridge University.

In April 2022, Zachary delivered the inaugural 3VB & Queen Mary Lecture, which aims to provide a platform for advanced thinking in the field of international dispute resolution. In his thought provoking lecture, “Instead of Principles, Slogans”, he argued that investment treaty arbitration is more akin to a tort claim against a public authority than to public or administrative law and that recognising this provides solutions to some of the controversies preoccupying the field.
