Stavros Brekoulakis nominated for Best Lecture at GAR Awards 2025

3VB Associate Member Professor Stavros Brekoulakis has been nominated for GAR’s “Best Lecture or Speech” award at the 15th annual GAR Awards 2025.

Stavros delivered the 2024 Maxwell Lecture, titled “Impartiality and the Construction of Trust in Investor State Dispute Settlement”. The lecture called for a new, and contextualised, understanding of impartiality which aligns more closely with the value of trust in ISDS.

In 2024, Professor Brekoulakis was appointed the Michael and Laura Hwang Chair of International Arbitration at the National University of Singapore. He previously received the GAR award for best lecture in 2020 for his Roebuck Lecture on “The Unwavering Policy Favouring Arbitration under English Law”.

Stavros has been instrumental in establishing the annual 3VB and National University of London Lecture. The 2024 keynote speech on “Double Waiver of Immunity and Ripple Effects”, given by Professor Phillipa Webb, is also nominated for GAR’s “Best Lecture or Speech” for 2025. The annual 3VB & NUS annual lecture aims to highlight innovative thinking in international dispute resolution, providing a platform for emerging leaders who are making significant contributions to the field.

The awards ceremony will take place at the at the Hôtel du Collectionneur in Paris on 10 April as part of Paris Arbitration Week.
