William Day recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 2026

William Day has been named in The Lawyer magazine’s Hot 100 for 2026, an annual list recognising lawyers across the profession for excellence and for their involvement in the most significant and relevant legal issues and cases of the year.

Long regarded as practising at a level well beyond his year of call, The Lawyer notes that Will’s case load “spans banking, insurance and insolvency, and frequently involves eye-watering sums of money and tricky points of law”. Particular recognition is given to Will’s role leading a team of five barristers in a high-profile pro bono public interest intervention by Charlie Maynard MP in the Thames Water restructuring plan last year, saying “Day’s work was instrumental in ensuring that the public’s voice was heard in perhaps the most closely watched insolvency litigation of the year”.

The Lawyer’s Hot 100 profile notes Will’s upcoming appearances in the Supreme Court in Bath Racecourse v Liberty Mutual (on the treatment of furlough on pandemic-related business interruption insurance claims) and in a 5 week Commercial Court trial in Cedar Mundi v Attieh (a banking / private equity dispute arising out of the Lebanese financial crisis). It also commends Will for balancing his busy practice at the bar “with academia as a fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. His academic work has been cited with approval by the Supreme Court three times now — proof that, for Day, theory really does sharpen practice”.

Members and staff at 3VB warmly congratulate William on this well-deserved recognition.
