3VB at the 8th IBA Asia Pacific Regional Forum in Hong Kong

Members of 3VB will be in Hong Kong from 17-21 February attending the ‘8th IBA Asia Pacific Regional Forum Biennial Conference: Vibrant Asia – Land of opportunity and promise’. Ali Malek KC, Nick Craig KC, Farhaz Khan KC, Judy Fu and Senior Practice Manager, Stuart Pullum will all be in attendance.

Ali Malek KC will be joining the panel for a plenary session on Legal Practice without Borders as part of the forum. The panel will examine the confluence between common law and civil law in courts and tribunals dealing with both. How do judges/advocates of a civil/common law jurisdiction adapt to a role in an international commercial court? What are the challenges to the role of in-house legal counsel in international transactions and dispute resolution? What are the skillsets required in dealing with cross-border legal practice? José-Antonio Maurellet SC will be chairing the session.

Whilst in Hong Kong, members of 3VB will celebrate José-Antonio Maurellet SC’s recent election as Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association (HKBA) for 2025. HKBA is the professional regulatory body for barristers in Hong Kong. It was founded in 1949 and has played a key role in the development of Hong Kong’s common law system.
