Dubai Arbitration Week 2024
Members of 3VB will be in Dubai from 11th to the 15th of November for Dubai Arbitration Week 2024.
3VB will be hosting a panel discussion on Environmental Law in the context of Arbitration.
“Water water everywhere…”
Climate change and growing (and moving) population centres are leading to ever increasing demand for fresh water. 3VB’s members will discuss a range of issues giving rise to water related disputes with a particular focus on the Middle East. From water access and water disputes under public international law, through infrastructure development and long-term water supply agreements to extreme weather-related insurance claims, our experts will discuss issues currently being arbitrated and provide their views on the issues driving the next wave of water-related arbitrations.
The panel includes experts in PIL and investor State disputes in the water sector, including:
- Professor Attila Tanzi, Professor of International Law at the University of Bologna and a leading expert on the law of the sea and environmental law,
- Dr Christopher Ward SC, who will be discussing the United Nations Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes,
- Georges Chalfoun, who will be discussing the intersection of climate change impacting water supplies and the fair and equitable treatment provision and/ or the minimum standard in investment treaties, and
- Dr Cameron Miles, who will be discussing the Indus Waters Treaty and its corresponding caselaw.
The panel will be moderated by Jane Davies Evans KC who is recognised as leading arbitrator and counsel in energy and infrastructure disputes, with significant experience of commercial disputes arising in the water sector.
