Liisa Lahti to speak on a panel at GAR: Live Women in Arbitration 2024

3VB’s Liisa Lahti will be speaking on a panel at GAR Live Women in Arbitration 2024, on key issues and trends in international arbitration in energy. The session will highlight how energy transition, wars and pandemics are important market forces that impact energy markets in many ways. While fossil fuels still represent a large portion of the world’s total energy supply, this is quickly changing with renewable energy expected to supply over 65% of global energy generation by 2050. In the same vein, recent conflicts have shifted supply and demand causing drastic price swings. This has given rise – and will continue to give rise – to large scale disputes between investors and states and between commercial companies. The forum of choice to resolve these disputes, contract or treaty-based, is international arbitration.

Isabelle Michou, partner, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan will moderate the session and Liisa’s fellow panellists are Naomi Briercliffe, partner, Squire Patton Boggs; Laurence Franc-Menget, partner, Herbert Smith Freehills; Norah Gallagher, academic director, Queen Mary University London, Energy & Climate Law Institute; Maria Kostytska, partner, Winston & Strawn; and Benedicte Stenvaag, senior VP legal & compliance, Uniper.

GAR Live: Women in Arbitration will celebrate the outstanding women practicing in the arbitration field and will take place on 5 December 2024 at Le Méridien Etoile, Paris. Saima Hanif KC and Lucy Burrows will also be in attendance.
